50,000 employees of the U.S. Army will use the productivity suite Google online.
The official Google blog dedicated to enterprise solutions announced that the U.S. military will deploy Google Apps. He stated that the deployment is part of a transformation program which aims to "improve collaboration, information sharing , and access from mobile devices to an initial group of 50,000 employees of the U.S. Army and the Department of Defense ( DoD) . "
According to Google , the ability to access Google Apps from any terminal, including thin clients, has been one of the main reasons for the choice . " A soldier will be able to see his progress via Google Drive, together with teammate on Google Docs, attend a course via Google HangOut , and all from a tablet , a smartphone or a standard PC ," explains Shannon Sullivan, Google employee Company responsible for defense and intelligence accounts , adding that the army will also distribute its own mobile apps on Play Store via a private channel .
The blog also points out that the official Fisma certification granted to Google Apps ( and more specifically their declination Google Apps for government) allows the government to have " a full understanding of the means available to secure the productivity suite ," and understand how the following can respond to their " strict criteria " security .
